Thompson Rivers University brings education directly to you through its Open Learning Division (TRU-OL). In this course we’ll be focusing on online instruction, although the principles within the course can apply to most of these models. I see three principle advantages to online education, 1) leverage, especially of the best teachers; 2) time savings; 3) individualized teaching and new technologies. Some courses may even delve into recent national and state politics that impact teaching regulations, resources, and curricula.

A small but growing number of educational institutions such as College for America (CfA) , Brandman , Capella , University of Wisconsin , Northern Arizona , and Western Governors are implementing online competency-based programs. The USED and Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) evaluate accreditors and recognize only those that meet certain quality standards. We must still weigh this value against the productivity increases (and thus the cost decreases) potentially available from online education
