The Jefferson County Board of Education is the policy-making body of the school district. More important jobs awaited them: combat overseas, attending to farmlands to grow the food necessary to sustain a struggling nation, and manufacturing factories that had to fulfill ever increasing demands for the production and delivery of war materiel. I have been watching from the cheap seats, the actions of several community members and board members Sellers and Beatty.
Schools cannot suspend a special education student for more than 10 days without holding a manifestation determination meeting. Charles Sellers has once again shown who and what he is. I thought his actions on Sunday were a new low when he began yelling at Dr. Collins and others demanding Dr. Collins not participate in the Special Board Meeting. Andy Patapow has devoted 50 years of his life to PUSD as a Principal and Board Member and has done nothing to merit re-call.
That was not always so, for from the beginning of this country until the present day advancing the cause of Public School education has been strongly opposed by parents with powerful political backing who have steadfastly resisted turning their children over to teachers for their moral education. Standard of education to Dike, V. (2003) is how education contribute to the public health (or sociopolitical and economic development of a Nation). The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) vests children with disabilities with the right to a free appropriate public education.
If a sufficient number of citizens complain to their elected state representatives it is possible to have statewide legislation enacted that addresses the nepotism problem as well, just as was seen in Oklahoma. I have completed, recently, my BA in History; as well as have an AA degree in Education and an AS degree in Computer Animation. In Oklahoma the state legislature has actually taken legislative action to deal with the nepotism problem in school employment practices by issuing House Bill 2479, which bans residents from holding board of education positions if their relative is employed by the school district and vice versa (Rousselot, 2006).
Two of the Board members are Vermont high school students; one is a voting member, and the other is not. What was at issue in 1954 and decided once and for all time was the ideal that all men are created equal under the eyes of the Supreme Architect of the Universe – at least when it comes to the question of equal access to education. There are also six (6), count them, SIX open superintendents positions open in San Diego County and the likely retirement of Dr. Collins in the near future.
