The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is the World Championship Mathematics Competition for High School students and is held annually in a different country. Created in 1952, IMPA has a mission that includes undertaking high-level research in pure and applied mathematics, training new researchers, disseminating mathematical culture and knowledge in all of its forms, and developing projects to improve mathematical teaching at all levels. We have a strong external and international focus and have started the first international research institute/research station in Australia in 2015, MATRIX@Melbourne.
If you are eager to get involved beyond the classroom, take part in the annual Undergraduate Research Conference , which gives you the opportunity to present your work to peers, professors, and family members. Mathematics & statistics have always been taught at Strathclyde with an eye firmly fixed on their practical applications. The Fields Institute, while focusing much of its attention on mathematics as a discipline, also features the Math Ed Forum which offers regular public meetings at Fields, as well as sponsoring a variety of mathematics education events and projects.
The goal is a balanced program of pure and applied mathematics, with emphasis on flexibility and quality, encompassing both theory and application, and covering the three major aspects of modern mathematics – analysis, modelling and computation. A few institutions in Australia, Canada, India, Russia, the US and the Philippines also award the Bachelor of Mathematics (BMath) degree – but the difference is usually only in the name.
You’ll look at the definition of a measurable space, additive measures, construction of measures, measurable functions, integrals with respect to a measure, differentiability of monotone functions, k-dimensional measures in n-dimensional space, Lebesgue-Stieltjes measure and Lebesgue measure.
